OUR APPROACH

RESILIENCE AT THE HEART OF OUR APPROACH

Afghanistan Libre's vision is that communities and their members are resilient and invariably uphold and protect the rights and empowerment of women and girls in the face of shock, uncertainty, and crisis.

The prologued instability in Afghanistan means that for individuals and communities to thrive they must be able to withstand and recover from stresses with dignity.

Afghanistan Libre focuses on communities as agents of systemic change and upholders of women's and girls' rights in Afghanistan. Strengthening communities through its individuals and systems in turn allows communities to nurture and uphold the rights and well-being of all individuals, even in the face of shocks.

AGENTS OF CHANGE

We consider that social actors can be classified into three categories: rights holders (girls and women), secondary duty-bearers (families, community, civil society actors), and primary duty-bearers (states and international bodies). Each and every one of these actors should become an agent of the desired change by taking direct action to address rights violations and gaps, reinforce institutional mechanisms and build the capacities of communities and civil society in their respective spheres.

The role that girls and women play in this process, that is, their degree of involvement, varies in accordance with their capacities. Afghanistan Libre focuses on communities as both primary-duty bearers and catalysts for wider systemic change in Afghanistan.

A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO PROGRAMMING FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS

Afghanistan Libre has a holistic approach with interventions developed for each stage and walk of life. Our Education Division has projects to support girls from kindergarten to university – targeting each barrier to accessing quality education and ensuring the best conditions for them to thrive. Our Women’s Empowerment Division works with the most marginalized women so they may be empowered with the health services, knowledge, and skills to thrive and reconstruct their lives.
